Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum)

Shiitake (Lentinula edodes)

Andrographis Paniculata (10% Andrographolides)

Astragalus membranaceus

Adhotoda Vasica (1% Vasicine)

Cordyceps stimulates the immune function by increasing the number of T helper cells, increasing the natural killer cell activity.  It is also used to treat coughs, chronic bronchitis, and respiratory disorders.

  • Do not use if on anticoagulant drugs, asthma inhalers, or immunosuppressant drugs for lupus, myasthenia gravis, psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis. (Cordyceps stimulates the immune system).
  • Avoid using cordyceps for hormone-sensitive disorders such as breast cancer or prostate cancer.
  • Cordyceps are for the use of adults only.

Reishi stimulates the maturation of immune cells known as macrophages, which engulf and digest infectious bacteria.  This prevents secondary infections from developing into cases of chronic bronchitis.

  • Adverse reactions are extremely rare, but using reishi for three to six months continuous my result in dryness of the mouth, throat and nasal passages; stomach upset; or nosebleed.  These complications appear so seldom that their exact causes are not known.
  • If taking blood-thinning medications such as warfarin, use Reishi only under a doctor’s supervision.
  • Reishi might have hypotensive activity, so avoid using with antihypertensive medication.

Shiitake contains complex sugars (polysaccharides) that stimulate the immune system to fight colds – they also enhance production of interferon.

  • May cause temporary diarrhoea and abdominal bloating in high dosages.
  • Allergic reactions are rare, but when they occur, they produce a characteristic whorl, similar to hives (‘shiitake dermatitis), on skin exposed to sunlight.
  • People with bladder cancer should not use raw shiitake.

Andrographis prevents infections with rhinoviruses, helps to relive runny nose, head ache, sore muscles, sore throat, swollen lymphnodes and fatigue.

Adrographis contains several active constituents, including andrograholide, deoxyandrographolide and other diterpenes.  It is used for the common cold because it is thought to have immunostimulant properties – increased antibody activity and phagocytosis by macrophages.

Astragalus is used for common cold and upper respiratory infections, to strengthen and regulate the immune system.

Chinese studies have shown that using astragalus during cold season reduces the number of colds and shortens the duration by building up a natural resistance.  It increases the body’s production of interferon, which helps to protect against viruses invading the cells.  Astragalus also helps the macrophages, immune cells that kill off viruses, to become faster and more efficient.

Adhotada Vasica

An Ayurvedic herb, also known as a Malabar Nut, is a unique herb that helps support bronchial function.  It promotes the expulsion of phlegm by thinning it.  Adhotada Vasica not only maintains optimum bronchial effectiveness, but supports the immune system and promotes upper respiratory health.

  • Do not use Critical Care if you are on anti-coagulant medication like warfarin.
  • Do not use if you have autoimmune disease or taking immunosuppressant medication.
  • Andrographis might reduce fertility in both men and women and should be avoided during pregnancy.
